Product Review: Equiderma

I am proud to announce I am an ambassador for Equiderma products and was a huge fan long before I became an ambassador. As you may know from my instagram I always try to seek out “cleaner” less toxic products to use on myself and my horses. Equiderma is a company that takes “clean” seriously and only uses natural, non-toxic ingredients in their products. Most of their products feature neem oil which is a true superhero.

Neem oil is an essential oil which some regard as a super oil because of its many benefits. It is extracted from the seeds of the neem tree, which is Native to India, where it has been used for centuries because of its healing properties. It is rich in fatty acids which help support healthy skin and hair by providing moisture that encourages hair health and growth. It is also anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and full of antioxidants. Needless to say it helps cure and prevent a wide range of skin issues, such as dry skin, dandruff, bug bites, scratches, canon crud, thrush/whiteline, rainrot and cuts.

I began my Equiderma collection with their Fly Spray. It is an all natural, eco-safe formula backed by the power of neem leaf and oil, aloe gel, citronella, eucalyptus, tea tree, lemongrass, lemon peel, and lavender. It is DEET and Pyrethrin free and smells, amazing, keeps flies at bay and does not leave a greasy residue.

I then ordered and fell in love with their Neem Oil Shampoo and Conditioner when I noticed my mares rubbing their tails. Just two tail washings using the shampoo and conditioner and the tail rubbing has stopped. I also use the shampoo on all of my horses legs to keep canon crud and scratches at bay. I use the conditioner on their whole bodies (I add a dollop to a bucket of warm water and sponge it all over, then give them a quick rinse) to keep their hair coats shiny and moisturized. I love that it is sulfate free because I don’t use any ingredients that contain sulfate on myself or my horses. During the manufacturing of products that contain sulfates, there is a risk of contamination from 1,4-dioxane, a chemical the Environmental Working Group [EWG] believes might be linked to cancer in humans. So definitely on my don’t use list!

I am also a big fan of Equiderma’s Thrush and WhiteLine Treatment. It’s powerful ingredients (mineral oil, chlorhexidine, neem oil, lavender oil) works like magic to help eliminate thrush in 1-2 applications without using harsh, harmful chemicals. It has become a staple in my hoof care kit.

The newest item I have added to my grooming arsenal is the Equiderma Skin Lotion. I am excited to give this a try whenever my horses have any skin related issues pop up. According to Equiderma’s website this formula works like magic on rain rot, scratches, mallenders/sallenders, mane and tail itching, sweet itch (insect bite reactions), summer sores, dandruff, cannon bone, ear and face crud, midline belly scabbing, mystery hair loss, ringworm, and many other fungal or bacterial skin infections. Shooter is allergic to fly bites and I am curious to see how this works this summer on his welts. I also plan to use it when spring rain/mud bring up the case of scratches Scout tends to get.
