#empties
Beauty Influencers share their #empties to denote those products that were good enough to finish and then re-order. The fact that these products were so good compared the vast number of other products they get sent to try, makes them true stand-outs. As I recently ran out of (or emptied) two products that I always use, it made me think about those horse products that are my #empties. I love to try new products but there are a select few that I re-order every time I run out and have yet to find a replacement that is as good.
Here are my #empties or #damngood:
Healthy Haircare Hair Moisturizer: This is the best coat conditioner for horse’s coats, manes and tails and is a therapeutic lanolin enriched concentrate that assists in replacing vital oils to the hair and skin. It adds shine, detangles manes and tails, controls dandruff and dry skin, helps blanket rubs and tail itching and cuts grooming time in half. It comes in a concentrate (that lasts forever) that you mix with water in a spray bottle. There is a reason why you will see it hanging from every barn’s grooming cart at horse shows. I re-order it every time my bottle gets low.
Keratex Hoof Hardener: I am never without Keratex and use it pretty much every week. It helps strengthen weak, worn or cracked hooves as well as providing a seal to keep excess moisture and harmful bacteria at bay. I swipe it on hooves before we get rain/snow and use it to fill in nail holes or cracks. It keeps my horses’ hooves strong and healthy. I even wrote a very popular post about how it works.
Absorbine Silver Honey Rapid Wound Repair Ointment: This does-it-all ointment combines two powerhouse ingredients, MicroSilver and Manuka Honey, to help heal cuts, scrapes and burns while stopping 99.9% of all bacteria. It is gentle on the skin while helping to repel infection and heal. I grab for this little tube probably 10 times a day to dob on all the little cuts, scrapes and knicks my horses get. I am currently on my third tube and will always keep one on hand. It also helps hot spots on dogs too.
Chlorhexidine Scrub: This mild yet powerful anti-bacterial scrub is a forever must-have. I use it to clean cuts, bug bites, fungus spots and back legs. It cleans and disinfects and when used regularly keeps fungus away. You can find iterations of it from various brands, which all work the same.
Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Conditioning Hair Mask: This is a newer product that has found a permanent spot in my wash rack. I discovered it this summer and am on my 3rd bottle. This super hydrating, but lightweight mask makes my horses manes and tails so soft and shiny. Their hair seems softer, stronger and more pliable (less apt to breakage) with each use. It is so thick that a little goes a long way and the bottle lasts quite awhile.
Equiderma Neem Shampoo: This anti-inflammatory and antioxidant formulation is far more than just a traditional cleansing shampoo. It calms hives, soothes sweet itch and insect bite hypersensitivity, and inhibits the growth of bacterial, fungal and dermatophyte-based skin issues. I love that it was designed to improve the condition of the skin while also leaving behind shiny, glossy hair. I reach for this on a weekly basis and it is super helpful if you have a horse who rubs it’s tail.
Sport Horse Essentials Hoof Oil: I have posted about this a few times and should do a whole post on it. I love this hoof oil and even though it is expensive, I still order it every time it runs out. I have never seen a hoof oil/moisturizer product make much difference visually until I tried this one. It leaves my horses hooves so shiny, healthy and moisturized. I love it’s “clean” ingredients and it smells amazing. And it can treat and prevent thrush.
Sore No More Liniment: There is a reason this has been awarded “Product Of The Year” twice by The Horse Journal, because it works! It’s gentle, all natural ingredients are super effective at reducing inflammation and pain. I love the liquid, spray version because it is super easy to spritz on after rides and while at horse shows. The real reason I know it works, is because my husband and I have both used it on ourselves to help ease sore, achey muscles. It is a serious game changer and your horse will thank you.
I asked in one of my favorite horse Facebook groups (Add More Leg-Breed Show Amateurs Community) what their #empties were and I got so many great comments and so many people also chose Healthy HairCare Moisturizer, Keratex, Sore No More and Absorbine Silver Honey Wound Ointment. Here is a list of some of the most popular #empties that weren’t on my list but may be worth adding:
Cowboy Magic Detangler
Baby Wipes (almost everyone mentioned this one)
DAC Poultice
Pepi (if you know, you know)
Silverado Face Shine
All Equifuse Products
Vetwrap, Bute and Banamine (all got lots of mentions and something we should all keep on hand)
