October Roundup

October Roundup

Can you believe we have finally made it to November?! October seemed to go by fast and really slow at the same time. We pretty much experienced all the seasons in October here in Oklahoma, temps in the 90’s, chilly fall-like mornings, wonderful sunny 60’s and 70’s and the largest ice storm in Oklahoma history towards the end of the month. It was certainly a roller coaster! October was primarily dry minus the ice storm so I got to ride Dreamer a lot trying to get ready to show at the upcoming AQHA World Show.

Luckily the following items helped get me and my horses thru this crazy month. Maybe you will find one you can’t live without either!

  1. Progressive Aqua Aide: Most people just think about giving electrolytes in the summer but I actually give them all year long, especially in the spring and the fall when we experience crazy temperature swings. Crazy temperature swings can cause your horse to lower it’s intake of water and could potentially lead to colic. So on days when we go from highs in the 80’s to highs in the 40’s I just sprinkle a little Aqua Aide in their feeders to keep them thirsty and drinking. This is hands down my favorite electrolyte powder because I have never known a horse who won’t immediately lick it up, even super picky eaters love it. It smells like jolly rancher candy so maybe that is why they love it.

  2. Schneider’s Tekno Fleece 3 Season Lightweight Stable Blanket: This is the goldilocks of horse blankets in the sense that is the perfect mix between a sheet and a blanket. It is perfect for those days when cool, windy mornings lead to warm, sunny afternoons because it provides more warmth than a sheet but not so much warmth that they will start to sweat as it warms up. We also have a heated barn so many times this is all the blanket my horses need. All of Schneider’s sheets and blankets are super durable, well made and fit, wash and wear beautifully.

  3. Knix Catalyst Sports Bra: I have heard a fair amount of whispering that this may be the best sports bra ever made and perfect for riding in. So I finally bit the bullet and ordered one and all I can say is, I can see why so many women love it! As someone who is a 32D/DD I am always looking for a sports bra that stops the bounce and is super comfortable. Up until now those two have been mutually exclusive, great bounce control but horribly uncomfortable or super comfy without any bounce control. It is the most supportive, high impact, wireless sports bra you will ever put on and they claim it has outperformed over 800 other bras. It’s performance molded cups reduce movement and it is designed to adapt to your shape as you wear it. It’s breathable fabric and design make it truly comfortable and quite frankly I forget I am wearing a sports bra when I wear it, which to me is the mark of a great bra.

  4. Soma WKND Jogger: You will never want to take these joggers off! Sleep in them, lounge on the sofa watching Hallmark Christmas movies in them, do barn chores in them or run errands in them (dressed up with cute sneakers, tee and jean jacket). They are made of a super soft brushed terry fabric that feels so cozy on. They also have a great stylish fit that is super flattering. If you are new to Soma I would also highly recommend all their pajamas, they use the softest fabrics that also help you stay cool at night.

  5. Kosasport LipFuel Hyaluronic Lip Balm and L:A Bruket Lip Balm: Tis the season for chapped lips so I always keep a few of these handy in my car, purse, house and barn. Both of these lip balms are clean and free of toxic ingredients (I am looking at you Chapstick, made from petroleum products that are known carcinogens). Ditch the Chapstick and switch to one of these. The ultra-hydrating Kosas Lip Balm in Rush is a tinted rose pink that leaves a flush of pretty long lasting color, while also being loaded with good for you ingredients that improve the condition of your lips. The L:A Bruket Lip balm is made of a mix of beeswax, almond oil, jojoba, and coconut oil that gives lips a surge of moisture, and smells subtly of almond and coconut. Other than the fact that it makes my lips super soft, I really love it’s larger than average size. This extra big tube will last all winter long!

  6. Ariat Women’s Cowboy Boots: Since I have started riding Dreamer in the ranch riding I have switched my paddock boots and tall boots for cowboy boots. I have always thought cowboy boots were uncomfortable but with Ariat’s ATS Technology I have changed my tune. Ariat’s Advanced Torque Stability cushions and supports your foot encouraging good posture and eliminating fatigue, making them extremely comfortable to wear. Plus I love the colorful uppers of this pair!
