Got You Covered
Fall in Oklahoma is a swinging roller coaster of temperatures. Lows range from 30’s to 60’s and highs range from 50’s to 80’s and we can even go from 30’s in the morning to 80’s in the afternoon. Blanketing horses can be a full time job, trying to decide if they need blankets, which blankets to use and knowing when to remove them. Years ago I discovered Schneider’s Lightweight Tekno-Fleece 3 Season Stable Blanket and they became my go-to fall blanket. They are the perfect mix between a sheet and a stable blanket, warm enough for chilly mornings but not so heavy that they get hot as the day warms up. They wash and wear great but my only complaint is that they don’t come with an open front option and two of my horses don’t love staticky blankets being pulled over their heads.
This fall I began the hunt to find a similar weight to the Tekno-Fleece that came in an open front option. I am happy to say that Schneiders came through again. The StormShield Contour Collar Classic Turnout features an open front and variety of warmth (fill) options. The lightweight (80 gms of fill) matches the Tekno-Fleece weight perfectly. It is also made of highly durable, waterproof fabric (something the Tekno-Fleece does not have). It features leg gussets for ease of movement, a contour collar to keep wind and water out and elastic leg straps to keep the blanket in place. They also wash and wear beautifully and repel dirt, shavings and mud. Dreamer and Scout love that I can remove them without pulling it over their heads. The StormShield Classic Turnout comes in a variety of colors and weights and starts at $119.99. Available online at sstack.com.
